The starting roster may look a little underwhelming when you first load up Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. You’re given eight fighters to choose from, the same number Super Smash Bros. players had on the Nintendo 64 in 1999. And you’re expected to unlock the other 66 characters by playing various game modes.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: How to Unlock Every Character (Fastest Method)
Normally, you're expected to unlock characters by completing the game's main adventure mode, where you'll find a fighter there that will instantly unlock them into your roster. There are ways to unlock characters in classic mode over time, much like the way the original games would lock characters in.
However, if you absolutely have no desire to play Adventure or Classic mode and would rather play with your friends in multiplayer, you'll be happy to hear that you can unlock characters after completing a certain number of battles in a specific order.
After a match ends, you will occasionally have the opportunity to fight a character in a one-on-one battle. If you win, that character will be added to your character selection screen and permanently added to your roster. If you lose, you will be given the chance to fight them again at the end of the next match. The fight will only be for the person who won the previous match. But in what order are these characters unlocked?
