Players looking to switch up their loadouts, trade in their Legendary Shards, or pick up those last few weapons before the expansion will find that their chances of doing so are dashed, as the Destiny 2 servers are offline until the next expansion. This isn’t due to technical issues, as has been the case in the past; rather, it’s a normal part of the pre-update release window. Here’s why the Destiny 2 servers are down and how to make the most of that time.
The Destiny 2 servers are down for a scheduled maintenance window leading up to The Final Shape release. These types of outages are to be expected whenever there’s an update, and expansions generally see more server downtime. For example, regular hotfixes and minor updates can keep servers down for a few hours, but the downtime for an expansion is generally unparalleled.
The release of The Witch Queen caused the servers to be down for about 14 hours, but Lightfall caused the servers to be down for 24 hours. The Final Shape is more in line with the latter.
