Pokérogue is a new Pokémon fan game that is taking the internet by storm. It combines Pokémon battling with endless waves of Roguelike elements such as permadeath, random item rewards, and difficult gameplay, if you can figure out how to work it.
The NEW Pokémon Roguelike is incredible
At the start of the game, you choose a team of Pokémon to fight through endless waves of battles. If a Pokémon dies in battle, you can revive it, but finding a resuscitation is incredibly difficult since there are no Pokémon Centers or places to take a break during your journey. You must approach each battle creatively, using each Pokémon’s strengths and weaknesses to survive as long as possible. One wrong move and you’re back to square one.
After each battle, you can choose from a list of items ranging from healing items to new attacks and money to give you an edge during the next battle. Item management is crucial here to survive as long as possible.
The problem most trainers face when playing Pokérogue though is that no one knows how to play it. The controls aren’t explained and you’re thrown straight into the game when you load it up, which has funnily enough led to a lot of wikis and fan pages being created to fill in what the game lacks.
