I’m always trying to find new ways to make my home (and everything around it) smell nice, with varying degrees of success. TikTok and other platforms are full of tricks that are supposed to give you long-lasting scents, but they usually fall flat on me. Here’s one that does work, though.
After I discovered this trick, my house smells like a rich man's house!
I came across this TikTok showing a woman filling her sink with hot water and adding a cup of cleaning solution, claiming it made the whole house smell nice.
I’ve been burned by household cleaner scent hacks before, but this one didn’t raise any of the red flags of the others. It almost seemed too easy. I decided to give it a try. I grabbed my trusty Fabuloso and ran to my sink, only to remember that I’d lost the plug after switching to a pink dirt trap that matches my decor and prevents crumbs from getting into my pipes, but is completely ineffective at completely clogging the drain. I decided to fill a large bowl with hot water and a half cup of Fabuloso to really test the hack. Would a smaller bowl produce a pungent odor?
The answer was yes. It was like I said yes right away. After filling my bowl, I left the kitchen. Five minutes later I went back and noticed the whole area smelled wonderful. I went back to my living room and 10 minutes later the smell hit me too. Her advice is to let the hot water and cleaner sit for an hour and then throw it away for a scent that lasts all day. It works. It really works. I can’t wait to try it with other scents and types of cleaners.
