New social media app Threads is quickly gaining a following, but experts say the app needs to add more features to beat Twitter.
What is Threads? New Social Media App Could Be a Game Changer!
Threads has amassed over 70 million registrations, and its introduction appears to have shocked Twitter enough that it is now threatening legal action. The new app, a way to share text and images, is shaking up the social media world.
"Threads has a unique advantage: access to Instagram's massive user base, potentially attracting users who haven't yet visited Twitter," social media expert Mike Mandell told Lifewire in an email interview. "However, this advantage can also be a disadvantage. While Twitter has long served as a platform for news and public discussion, Threads may appeal more to users looking for deeper connections within their community of followers."
The Threads app is similar to Twitter, with a feed of messages consisting of text, photos, and videos where people can have real-time conversations. Messages posted to Threads have a 500-character limit. Like on Twitter, users can reply to and repost messages in Threads, and quote other people's messages.
