Online dating comes with risks because you're essentially meeting a complete stranger. Tinder wants to make it safer.
Tinder to offer background check feature for date matches
The popular dating app just unveiled a background check feature and improved tools to report abuse, as announced in a company blog post . Users will soon be able to run background checks on the app, which is maintained by a nonprofit called Garbo. Incidentally, Tinder’s parent company, Match Group, became a corporate sponsor of Garbo in March 2021.
Tinder hasn’t yet announced exactly how the background check will work or when it will be available. They did say it will be for US residents only.
That's not the only change the dating app is making. Tinder also unveiled a series of enhanced tools for members to report abuse. The tools come after the app partnered with the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, or RAINN, in March 2020.
