Correct, the answer to number three in the July 29 NYT Mini Crossword is "BYTE". I thought this clue was about concerts, not computers – silly me. A byte is a unit of data that is eight binary digits long. A megabyte is 1,000,000 bytes. My laptop has a terabyte of storage and I can only imagine how many bytes that is.
German-American computer scientist Werner Buchholz coined the term byte in 1956. Maybe he was hungry that day.
