Work on the upcoming chapters of the beloved Deltarune RPG is proceeding according to plan, although a release is not yet in sight. Toby Fox, the game's lead developer, has said that development is "picking up speed" with the addition of new developers and that he doesn't "want anyone to burn out."
Sneaking – NEW Deltarune Ch3 CANCELLED issue by Toby Fox! (Undertale Fall Newsletter)
The latter part of the statement concerns both avid players and developers. On May 17, Fox said that the team behind Deltarune is not "burned out on making it," despite the game having been in development since 2018. Deltarune currently only contains Chapters One and Two, with Chapters Three and Four scheduled to release simultaneously at some point. "Chapter Four is making really good progress," Fox added in his development newsletter summary. He announced that a new producer and several new employees are working on the project, but the dual release of said chapters is "still a ways off."
In the full newsletter, Fox said that the Deltarune team is "on track to meet our internal deadline," and that work is going "better than ever." The developers have completed most of the cutscenes, with only a few more to polish. They have also completed technical work on Chapter Four combat, and have made significant progress on the Chapter's overworld and gimmicks.
But even if all goes smoothly and the new producer wants to release the game "before we get old and wrinkled," no exact release date can be given. Still, Fox said he was happy with how things are going and hoped that by the next update, at least some members of the dev team would be working on Chapter Five.
