Nobody has stronger legs than platform heroes, who can leap from rooftop to rooftop or even from cloud to cloud, and can often defeat enemies by jumping on their heads. There are a ton of platformers on the Wii, many of which offer unique takes on the genre. Here are the top ten.

'De Blob' dispenses with the traditional platformer-with-legs protagonist in favor of a rubbery, round creature that happily bounces across cityscapes, using its body as a paintbrush to color in a monochrome city. Despite its unconventional hero, the game follows the platforming tradition of requiring players to make impossible leaps to unreachable places. It turns out that legs aren't necessary after all.

This colorful and imaginative action-adventure game features a hero who can use paint and thinner to add or subtract from the landscape. For example, you can paint a previously missing box or remove chunks of wall with thinner to create something to hold onto. While the game’s camera angles can sometimes make it hard to see where you’re jumping, this is largely because the game refuses to restrict where you’re jumping. Mistakes made from over-ambition are always the most forgivable.

The Sonic games never really became like other platformers. Sonic doesn’t just wander up to a platform and jump on it, but instead runs at insane speeds through long, rollercoaster-like paths, reaching platforms by shooting off ramps or running into spring-loaded buttons. Sonic’s heyday was as a 2D hero, but developer Team Sonic has finally made a 3D Sonic game that rivals the old side-scrollers in terms of fun. For me, this is not only the best 3D Sonic game, but the best of the entire series.
