When you’re on the road, a fast and secure wireless connection can be hard to come by. An open network is a vulnerable network, and it’s easy for someone to eavesdrop on you as you log onto the guest network at your hotel, where dozens, maybe even hundreds, of people are also connected. That’s where the TP-Link TL-WR902AC Travel Router comes in, providing a private network connection wherever the road takes you.
How to Install and Configure your TP-Link Portable Router (TL-WR902AC)
The TP-Link TL-WR902AC is anything but simple in its design. You have two Ethernet ports (one to connect the router to the network, one to connect a device to the router), a USB port, and a power adapter port. There is a reset button, a switch to select one of three different modes, and the device only comes with a short Ethernet cable and an equally short power cable.
The short length of these cables is a bit limiting, so you may want to bring your own. Luckily, they are easy and inexpensive accessories to purchase. Since it is powered by a micro USB port, this router can easily be powered by a portable battery pack, meaning you don’t even necessarily need a power outlet to use it.
The TP-Link TL-WR902AC’s small size and light weight are definitely a boon for frequent travelers. It’s small enough to easily fit in my pocket, making it small enough to take with me wherever I go, no matter how light I can carry. It appears to be made of fairly durable plastic, so you don’t have to worry about it breaking down on the road. The design is fairly bland and utilitarian, with a simple row of indicator lights breaking up the monotonous gray-and-white surface, but then again, it’s not a category that inspires much in the way of dramatic design.
