Microsoft's Xbox One gaming console includes an option to "Test Network Connections" on the Network screen. When you select this option, the console will run a diagnostic that looks for technical issues with the console, your home network, the Internet, and the Xbox Network service. If everything is configured and working as it should, the tests will complete normally. However, if a problem is detected, the test will report one of several different error messages as described below.
FIX XBOX ONE Won't Connect to WIFI & Network Issues | (5 Steps & More)
When part of a home Wi-Fi network is set up, Xbox One communicates with a broadband router (or other network gateway) to reach the Internet and the Xbox network. This error appears when the game console is unable to establish a Wi-Fi connection. The Xbox One error screen recommends power cycling the router (gateway) device to work around this issue. If the router administrator recently changed the Wi-Fi network password (wireless security key), Xbox One should be updated with the new key to prevent future connection errors.
Most home routers use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to assign IP addresses to client devices. While a home network can technically use a PC or other local device as a DHCP server, the router normally serves that purpose. An Xbox One will report this error if it is unable to negotiate with the router via DHCP.
The Xbox One error screen advises users to power cycle their router, which can help with temporary DHCP issues. In more extreme cases, particularly where the same issue is affecting multiple clients in addition to the Xbox, a full factory reset of the router may be required.
