An early feature in the new Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is that players will be able to recreate the parry style from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, effectively turning the DLC into FromSoftware's iconic shinobi title.

The item in question, the Deflecting Hard Tear, can be collected relatively early in the DLC, immediately after defeating the Furnace Golem that stomps around the Gravesite Plains shortly after the player spawns. It rewards players with an entirely game-changing mechanic that many have described as being very similar to Sekiro’s parrying system; arguably the most famous mechanic from the 2019 release.
Unlike Elden Ring, where the i-frames/invincibility frames you get for dodging, Sekiro’s gameplay revolves around fending off and blocking bosses. That’s exactly what the new Crystal Tear brings to the DLC.
The Deflecting Hard Tear grants players a dramatic buff to their guard ability and guard counter for five minutes. When done correctly, the player will receive an extreme boost to their poise and damage reduction during the block, while also gaining an empowered Guard Counter after the Spontaneous Guard. Additionally, this doesn’t require the player to be using a shield to parry or have the Ash of War parry equipped; it’s simply a Sekiro parry mechanic that can now be easily tied into the Flask of Wondrous Physick.
