According to streamers, Twitch's new tools for identifying accounts trying to circumvent a channel ban are a step in the right direction, but not exactly a big or helpful one.

With over 40 million users in the United States alone in 2020, Twitch couldn’t help but see its fair share of trolls and abuse. Sure, keeping bad actors off major platforms is nearly impossible, but moderation isn’t. And streamers have been fed up with the lack of meaningful moderation for a while now.

Hence the recently announced Suspicious User Detection tools, which Twitch hopes will help channels deal with accounts that attempt to evade a ban. The idea is to make it easier for streamers and channel moderators to identify and deal with abusive users who won’t stay away, but is that enough? Well, no. Not by a long shot.

“I really can’t understand why they would build a feature to flag problematic accounts and stop there,” Twitch streamer TheNoirEnigma told Lifewire in an email. “It’s kind of like someone dying of thirst and being given muddy water.”
