Twitter says it has begun experimenting with a new feature that will automatically archive tweets after a preset amount of time.
Download and access your Twitter data archive
According to Bloomberg, Twitter's own internal studies have shown that many users don't fully understand its privacy features, leading them to post less often. Twitter's privacy team wants to give those users more confidence to speak out.
From now on, the tweet archiving feature would be a way to decide whether you want your tweet to stay up before you tweet it. If you prefer it to be temporary, you can choose from a small variety of time settings (30, 60, or 90 days).
Once your tweet has been live for the amount of time you set with the timer, it will automatically be archived and removed from public view. As noted, this feature is still in the conceptualization phase, so a lot could change before it goes into user testing or public release.
