Twitter is testing another feature that could become a permanent fixture on the platform: a feature that lets you remove a follower without unfollowing them altogether.
Can I block someone on Twitter without them knowing?
The social network tweeted on its official Support page Tuesday that it would only test the feature on the web for now. Twitter said the feature would make it "easier to be the curator of your own followers list."
By clicking “Remove Follower” in your followers list, your tweets will not appear on their timeline, according to The Verge. However, it’s important to note that this soft blocking feature is different from blocking someone, as you can still send/receive direct messages from a person you remove as a follower.
Previously, if you wanted to “soft block” someone this way, you had to block them and then immediately unblock them, essentially unfollowing them without them knowing. Twitter is making this concept an actual feature, so you don’t have to jump through hoops to get the same result.
