Twitter is currently testing a number of new notifications in its iOS and Android apps that will alert users to heated conversations on the platform.
Twitter tests new collaboration feature
The new feature, called “Heads Up,” is the company’s latest effort to combat harassment and abuse on Twitter. The official Twitter Support account shows the two different prompts; one is a simple notification that indicates the conversation is intense, and the other encourages empathy and fact-checking.
The second assignment contains three rules that remind people that there is a human being on the other end of the line, that facts are important in a conversation, and that they should consider different perspectives.
When asked what metrics are used to judge what is considered an "intense" conversation, Twitter Support responded that the platform has a set of criteria for determining which threads require such a warning, but did not elaborate. The platform will also take into account the topic of the discussion and the relationship between the thread's author and other users.
