Twitter has launched a global test of incorporating ads into conversations on iOS and Android.
Elon Musk on Twitter Chaos: Optimizing for Ad Relevance vs. Impressions
Bruce Falck, the company’s revenue product lead, announced the start of the test Wednesday, which will place ads in Twitter conversations after the first, third or eighth response. He said many of the details (placement, frequency, permanence, etc.) are subject to change depending on the data.
According to Falck, “we see a great opportunity to create an advertising offering that creates value and aligns incentives for creators and advertisers.” He continued, “We’re excited to try this out for our advertisers and are eager to explore how it can open the door to additional opportunities to reward Tweet authors and creators.”
When asked about it, Falck also claimed that it's "likely" that the new ad format will be something that creators can opt into for revenue sharing. This means that there's a chance (though it hasn't been confirmed) that ads in conversations won't be something that all Twitter users will encounter.
