Amazon claimed that Echo Buds could “in rare cases” overheat when left charging in their charging case, prompting it to send an email to users on Wednesday asking them to update their software, the BBC reported.
How to Reset Your Amazon Echo Buds to Prevent Overheating Issues
How it works: The company also apparently said that users would automatically get the security update when they connect to their phone via Bluetooth. You can check to see if yours are updated by connecting to a phone while it's in the case and using the Alexa app to see if the software version is 318119151 or higher, BBC says.
So what? If your Buds haven’t been updated, you can “force” one by keeping them within range of your phone for about 30 minutes after ensuring they’re connected via the Alexa app.
Bottom line: Chances are your Echo Buds are fine, but it’s a good idea to make sure they’re updated. Amazon’s email also said that the update will improve your battery performance in the long run, so that’s a good thing too. Aside from the whole “don’t overheat” thing, of course.
