Extract Audio from MP4 Video with FFMPEG – Easy
If you want to extract the audio from Flash Video files (FLV format), there are a few options available. Unfortunately, the choice many of them make for you is to encode the audio stream into a different format. In some cases this isn’t a problem, but if you want to keep the audio identical to what’s in the video, you’ll want something that can extract the audio in one piece. FFmpeg, a multimedia toolkit for Linux, Mac, and Windows, can do this easily.
The example below is for Linux, but once you have it installed on Windows or Mac you can run the same command as below.
First, you need to download and install FFmpeg. Most distributions have FFmpeg in their software repositories, although some support has been removed for software patent reasons. In any case, for our purposes, a fairly basic version of FFmpeg will suffice. In Ubuntu, all you need to do is issue the following command in the Terminal:
