Participating in a conversation is one thing; knowing how to start a conversation is another. Even if you want to start a conversation with someone, you may not be able to think of what to say. The next time you find yourself in a situation like that, try the HEFE method.
Have better conversations using the FORD method
Similar to the FORD Method, the HEFE Method offers a simple way to remember four broad topic areas that can serve as conversation starters. “HEFE” stands for hobbies, entertainment, food, and environment. (In this case, “environment” refers to your immediate surroundings, as opposed to climate change or conservation.) While the FORD topics (family, career, recreation, and dreams) can be useful in some professional settings or with acquaintances, the HEFE Method can be most helpful when interacting with strangers.
