Maybe you want to consult a spreadsheet while writing a report. Maybe you want to watch a sporting event while playing a game. There are all sorts of reasons why you might want to have a window, or part of a window, floating over anything on your computer. With the free Windows application OnTopReplica, you can do just that.

Picture in Picture (PIP) mode on Windows 10 (always place window on top)

To get started, download the latest version from Github. Inside the zip file, you’ll find an MSI installer. The documentation states that the software works on Windows 7, 8, and 10, but I had no problems getting it to work on Windows 11. Launch OnTopReplica and it will open a gray box that floats above your other windows. Right-click on that gray box to view the settings.

Hover over Select Window and you can choose which window you want to recreate and pin to the top. For example, I chose a YouTube video I was watching: the entire browser window was displayed.

You can drag this box anywhere on your screen. You can then click Select Region to see only a certain part of the window, such as the actual video. You can move and resize the window as you like, whatever is there will scale. You can also make the window partially transparent, if you want. It's very flexible.
