Window management has been a sore point on the Mac for years. Many people make the switch from Windows machines to Mac and find macOS’s window management lacking in comparison. Apple finally adds more robust window snapping to macOS Sequoia (currently in developer beta), but until you upgrade, I recommend checking out Loop. Loop is a free app that does the same thing and is packed with handy keyboard shortcuts too.
8 macOS Equivalents to Popular Windows Features
There are still several reasons to look at third-party window management apps over Apple’s built-in option, which is coming this fall. The first and foremost is that not all Macs will get the Sequoia upgrade. If your Mac isn’t getting the upgrade (or if you can’t immediately switch to Sequoia because an app you need for work doesn’t support it), third-party tools are still a viable option.
Second, these window management apps do a few things better than Apple’s tools. For starters, they have easier keyboard shortcuts by default. Loop, for example, uses the globe (fn) key along with arrow keys to easily move your windows around. Other apps like Rectangle Pro let you hide windows at the edge of your screen, create custom snap targets on your screen, and even set a custom window size and bind it to a shortcut.
While Apple has removed the need for a basic window manager app, power users still find value in using a third-party alternative.
