This article explains how to use Scroll Lock in Microsoft Excel. The instructions in this article apply to Excel 2019, Excel 2016, Excel 2013, Excel 2010, and Excel for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows 7.

If you prefer to keep your hands on the keyboard, this option comes in handy. All you have to do to enable it is press the Scroll Lock key (which may appear as the "ScrLk" key or the "scr lk" key), which is usually located at the top of the keyboard.

When you turn on Scroll Lock, a notification appears in the status bar at the bottom left of the Excel window.

If it doesn't appear in the status bar but you suspect it's enabled, check whether it's enabled or disabled by right-clicking on the status bar.
