The VALORANT console community is bracing for an ice-cold battle as the infamous Icebox map arrives with Patch 9.02. Known for its complex layout, numerous angles, and oft-criticized site design, Icebox is a divisive addition to Riot Games’ FPS on PC.
Valorant Console Patch 9.02: All the game-changing updates you need to know!
Icebox is characterized by its industrial, icy theme and features large open areas, multiple levels, and long sightlines – it’s no coincidence that Sova, born from “the eternal winter” of the Russian tundra, thrives on Icebox. The VALORANT map can be divided into three main areas: A-site, a more enclosed space with multiple entry points; B-site, a larger open area with a central pillar used for vertical plays; and in between is MID, a long corridor connecting the two sites.
While the map offers strategic depth and potential for exciting plays, players have long criticized it for favoring defensive playstyles and creating frustrating situations for attackers. Its intricate structure can often feel overwhelming, with attackers struggling to find efficient entry points while defenders have an abundance of angles to hold.
In short, while some players appreciate Icebox's many features, most find it frustrating and not worth the effort.
