Viper’s full loadout took a major hit in the latest VALORANT patch 8.08 from late April. Now, players are asking Riot Games to implement yet another change to help the toxic agent get back on his feet.
Valorant New Patch 8.08 (Viper Nerf, Cypher Nerf)
Nearly every ability in Viper’s kit received a nerf outside of her ultimate in VALORANT’s Patch 8.08, to the point where players were mourning the agent’s status in the meta. One of the biggest changes is that Viper can no longer pick up her Poison Cloud orb mid-round. Previously, she could pick up and reposition her orb later in the round, but now she can only move it during the buy round. This gives her less flexibility and cover to work with, especially since her Toxic Screen wall can’t be moved either.
VALORANT players suggested a necessary change they'd like to see added to Viper in a May 4th post on the game's subreddit, detailing how Viper can view the exact placement of the orb in custom games with cheats. They'd love to see this implemented as an actual feature for her Poison Cloud orb, with many players agreeing that it would be a fair change to her quality of life without boosting her in the pro scene since pros should already have a ton of Viper lineups up their sleeve.
Currently, there is no room for error when placing Viper’s orb; while other controllers can preview where their smokes will go before committing, Viper must throw her orb without any preview and often relies on lineups. Unfortunately, the orb can make a weird jump and land in an unintended spot or you may miss your lineup. These incidents were much more forgiving when Viper could reposition her orb mid-round instead of having to play the entire round with bad smoke.
