VALORANT players are fed up with the game’s map rotations this week, feeling that Riot Games is doing more harm than good by cycling through older maps. Some are tired of playing the same maps back to back, while others are calling for casual modes to fill up the game’s “inactive” map pool.
New LEAKED Ascent Map Changes
VALORANT players discussed their concerns about the current map pool in a Reddit post on April 20. The map pool was last adjusted at the start of the first act of Episode Eight on January 9, 2024. You can randomly queue into any of the seven maps across VALORANT's game modes, but players will not have the option to choose which map they want to play, while maps not in the current pool will remain hidden entirely.
“They’re doing it to make the game ‘easier to learn for newer players,’ but honestly the only thing it’s likely doing for newer players is making them tire of the game much faster,” the post’s author wrote. Several players also shared how they hate queuing for what used to be their favorite map because of how often they’re forced to play it. While Riot explained why this might be happening in May 2022, it seems that players are still running into the issue of map repetition and devs will need to take further measures.
Others are also baffled as to why Riot isn’t allowing players to access the game’s other maps in unranked modes. Unlike VALORANT, modes in rival FPS Counter-Strike 2 allow players to pick and ban maps in Premier mode, or simply select the maps they want to play in the standard Competitive. Additionally, you can play maps that aren’t in the competitive pool when queuing for CS2’s casual modes.
