Valve just released a new version of Steam Deck, and it looks fantastic.
Valve announces new Steam Deck OLED specs, price and release date
You get a new OLED display (like Nintendo’s Switch OLED) for gaming, which offers high contrast, image clarity, and pure blacks. The Steam Deck OLED’s screen is also larger, which will help all of us see games better while playing them portable.
The company is promising 30-50 percent more battery life thanks to the larger battery, more efficient AMD chip, and OLED’s ability to consume less power than LED displays. The Wi-Fi has also been upgraded to 6e, which means (if you have a 6e-enabled router) faster downloads and lower latency for those jittery online games. Oh, and the new Steam Deck OLED runs cooler than the previous version, with larger fans and better cooling features, and is also about 5 percent lighter.
The specs are pretty impressive too, with a 6nm AMD APU, a Zen 2 4c/8t 3.5GHz CPU, an 8 RDNA 2 CUs GPU clocked at 1.6GHz, and 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM onboard. It comes with two storage options, 512GB or 1TB, with both models also including a fast microSD slot for expanding your library.
