Did Venice's Controversial Entrance Fee Experiment Work?
The enduring power of family bonds amid ecological chaos and the fears humanity faces from ongoing wars are the striking themes of the more than 60 projects presented at the Production Bridge gap financing market in Venice, which opens on August 29.
As examples of this trend, Pascal Diot, head of the VPB, as the Lido’s independent film market is known, cited Blackwater by Polish director and anthropologist Aga Woszczyńska, in which two brothers and their partners are trapped by an ecological disaster on an island in the Baltic Sea; and Yegor Troyanovsky’s documentary Cuba & Alaska, which follows military paramedics from Cuba and Alaska as they risk their lives in war-torn eastern Ukraine.
All projects presented at the Venice Gap Financing Market must have at least 70% of their financing in place.
