Riot Games has released a full cinematic trailer for the upcoming VALORANT map Abyss, showcasing various locations where players can fall to their doom. Fans can’t help but compare the trailer to one of Counter-Strike’s classic playgrounds.
CS2 vs Valorant Map Sizes Explained
Riot revealed the new map on June 8, with the video featuring many agents navigating what appears to be a garden atop an endless well, which makes sense given the name. The endless well design bears a resemblance to Vertigo, a classic Counter-Strike map introduced to the franchise in 2012 that lets you play across two of the highest floors of a skyscraper under construction. FPS fans were quick to note the similarity, wondering if Abyss will let you fall to your death just like Vertigo.
"The map from a bird's eye view looks a lot like the_vertigo from Counter-Strike," one fan said in a June 8 Reddit thread. Several fans are also looking forward to losing rounds in their matches only for their teammates to fall off the map, which will undoubtedly happen as they find their feet in the first few weeks.
What sets Abyss apart from Vertigo is that the VALORANT map appears to have a giant hole in the middle of what appears to be a Spike site. While you can fall off the edges of Vertigo, players will not be able to free-fall from anywhere within the map’s boundaries. Riot has yet to confirm whether there will be a barrier preventing players from walking off the map.
