New research shows your video calls may not be as secure as you think.
Video Calls in 2021
Cybersecurity firm McAfee has published a report revealing a new vulnerability in a software development kit (SDK) for video calling. Hackers could exploit this vulnerability to spy on users’ live video and audio conversations. Dating apps such as eHarmony and Plenty of Fish were among the apps that used the vulnerable SDK platform.
“Whether you regularly attend virtual work meetings or catch up with extended family on the other side of the world, it’s important as a consumer to understand exactly what you’re getting into when you download applications that help you stay connected,” said Steve Povolny, head of McAfee Advanced Threat Research, in an email interview.
“As video conferencing tools and apps become more popular, potential threats to online security will inevitably arise.”
