The best keyboard for typing in virtual reality (VR) may actually be one that doesn't exist.
Overview of Tracked Keyboard for VR for Quest 2 and Quest Pro, Work or Play
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently posted a video of himself trying out a virtual keyboard in a Quest 2 headset. According to experts, such keyboards could be the future of productivity in VR.
“The next evolution of virtual keyboards will use robust hand tracking technology to accurately track the movement of all of the user’s fingers,” DJ Smith, chief creative officer of mixed reality company The Glimpse Group, told Lifewire in an email interview. “Until recently, users were unable to do this due to the inaccuracies of hand tracking; however, current advancements in AI and machine vision are quickly making this type of virtual typing feasible.”
Zuckerberg reported that he was getting about 100 words per minute using the virtual keyboard, while Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth reported getting 119 words per minute.
