Just hours after launching their strike against major video game companies, SAG-AFTRA made waves at San Diego Comic-Con by citing the “existential threat” of artificial intelligence, which they say has been holding up a new deal for nearly two years.

During a panel discussion at the convention on Friday morning, Ashly Burch, Noshir Dalal, Sarah Elmaleh and Shannon Woodward received loud applause from fans when they discussed the work stoppage (and wore SAG-AFTRA strike shirts).
“AI is a huge concern — and it’s a huge concern for our professions, for voice actors and motion artists in particular,” said Burch, who is known for her roles in Mythic Quest and Horizon Forbidden West. “So we need to take a stand, because the protections that our employers are providing are woefully inadequate and are going to put many, many, many people out of work.”
Burch added that she hoped the panel, which was already scheduled to discuss their extensive work on some incredibly popular video games like The Last of Us Part II, "shows how irreplaceable we are."
