Facebook is temporarily bringing Messenger functionality back to the main Facebook app through a multi-country test for voice and video calling.
Facebook Messenger Voice and Video Calls Not Working on Microsoft Edge FIX [Tutorial]
According to Bloomberg, Facebook is letting some users in select countries (including the US) try out voice and video calling features within the Facebook app. Normally, you would have to use Facebook Messenger to do this, as Facebook split the features into the Messages app back in 2014. However, if you use Facebook through your computer's browser, everything is still in one place.
So far, Facebook has only confirmed that voice and video calling are being tested in the main app. It hasn’t said anything about whether we might see other Messenger features come to the main app in the future. It also hasn’t explained what might happen to the Messenger app if these features are brought back to the Facebook app. For now, it wants us to keep using the Messenger app.
Facebook has not explained why it wants to reintegrate previously spun-off features into a separate app. Bloomberg speculates that it could be a way for Facebook to make it harder to split itself into smaller parts.
