Amid all the “Altman is out. No, wait. He’s back” drama, OpenAI has finally made voice chat with ChatGPT fully available, even for those on the free version.
How to Write an Entire Book with ChatGPT
Greg Brockman, President and co-founder of OpenAI, made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) late Tuesday, shortly after ousted CEO Sam Altman posted on the same platform that he would be returning to OpenAI as CEO. His return comes as the board has been replaced, and he returns with a Microsoft partnership in tow. What that means for OpenAI, ChatGPT, and artificial intelligence in general remains to be seen.
The new feature, however, has nothing to do with all that drama. It was announced back in September, but was only available for Premium and Enterprise plans. Now, anyone who uses ChatGPT can use the feature.
In a demo accompanying the announcement, someone can be heard asking ChatGPT how many pizzas to order for a large group of people (roughly the same number of people as OpeAI). But the possibilities of voice communication are much greater than just ordering pizza.
