Warner Bros. plans to market many of its properties, including mega-franchises like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Batman, Looney Tunes and many more, so that game developers can license them to increase performance and revenue.

WB's new game plan comes after Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League flopped. 2024 isn't over yet, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has already been named the worst game of the year. The game performed so poorly that the title's underperformance resulted in a $200 million drop in revenue for Warner Bros. Ouch. To combat this, and the overall underperformance and revenue loss, Warner Bros. is considering outsourcing its biggest franchises to be licensed by other game developers, as reported by IGN.
This means that in the future, developers and publishers could pick up the licenses for these franchises and create games set in their universes. It’s unclear to what extent Warner Bros. would have a hand in this, but it would most likely be a collaborative effort a la Sony’s Spider-Man series or licensed sports games like NBA 2K.
This could be a great or a bad development for Warner Bros., depending on how well the games are developed and (of course) how much money they make from them.
