Microsoft hosted a special event at the Microsoft Campus on Monday to unveil its new Copilot+ PC, a Surface laptop with some very cool new features.
Microsoft's new AI Copilot+ PCs are here and they look fantastic!
First, the tech. Microsoft says it has an "all-new system architecture to bring together the power of the CPU, GPU, and now a new high-performance Neural Processing Unit (NPU)." It looks like the top-of-the-line will feature a Snapdragon X Elite 12-core processor, which Microsoft claims outperforms Apple's 15-inch MacBook Air (M3) by 58%. The company also says the thin new Surface Laptop will have "all-day battery life" that can deliver "up to 22 hours of local video playback or 15 hours of web browsing on a single charge."
The hardware isn’t the most exciting part of the announcement, though. Rather, it’s the features Microsoft also announced that are going to the billing. Among them is a very Mac-like new capability called Recall. It works a lot like the Mac Rewind app, in that it keeps track of what you do as you use your computer in a searchable timeline of events that you can return to at any time. The difference, however, is that Recall comes pre-installed on the Surface PC rather than a separate app.
Microsoft also shared new capabilities for live captions: essential live translations that appear as text on the screen. These translations happen in real time, or you can use them on pre-recorded audio in more than 40 languages to instantly display English subtitles.
