WhatsApp is improving its video calling feature with three major updates: an increased number of participants, support for screen sharing with audio, and the ability to easily see who’s talking among participants. The Meta-based company also recently received a new codec to improve call quality and reliability. Here’s everything you need to know about the recent changes to WhatsApp video calling — and yes, they’re all available across all platforms.
How to Share Your Screen During a WhatsApp Video Call (2024)
WhatsApp’s video calling feature puts it in direct competition with other video conferencing apps like Zoom and Google Meet. And true to its ambitions, WhatsApp updates are aimed at larger virtual meetings and improving the video calling experience across platforms.
WhatsApp now allows up to 32 people to join a single conversation. Previously, this was only possible on mobile devices, while Windows and macOS users could add up to 16 and 8 people to a conversation, respectively. The limit has now been extended to users on all platforms, so no matter where you start the conversation, you can now add significantly more people to a single conversation.
WhatsApp’s screen sharing feature, which was only released in August last year, now also gets the ability to share audio. This can come in handy in a variety of scenarios, such as watching videos with others, helping your parents troubleshoot issues on their device, or sharing content that isn’t always easy to share.
