The Sims 4 has a steamy new expansion in the works, Lovestruck, which focuses on fleshing out romance options. And alongside its July 25 release comes a free update that will finally let players explore polyamory.

Polyamory in The Sims 4 CONFIRMED

Before this relationship update, Sims who had romantic feelings for multiple partners would suffer from jealousy. Now, with the introduction of a new “Romantic Boundaries” system, according to the official Sims blog, relationship penalties and jealousy have been removed, allowing interested players to now determine how their Sims approach relationships in terms of exclusivity—both physically and emotionally.

The patch also added new social options that allow Sims to further explore polyamory without any barriers. For many Sims players, especially those on consoles who can’t use mods, this update is a game-changer. Fans have already expressed their joy on Twitter (formerly X), with one player stating: “I needed this years ago when I made my sims a threesome and they all started fighting and crying because they all got cheated on.” Others also added that they’d like to see new mods of the change.

The introduction of polyamory vastly broadens the storytelling, allowing players to create and explore stories that reflect a wider range of possible real-life dynamics. And while the free patch adds a lot, The Sims 4: Lovestruck expansion delivers even more romance content. The expansion pack adds a new city, Ciudad Enamorada, with three new districts to explore. It also introduces the dating app Cupid's Corner, which allows Sims to create dating profiles and even plan their dates for a modern twist.
