Hard drive manufacturer Western Digital has announced its new 20TB hard disk drives (HDD), which feature the new OptiNAND architecture.

The announcement was made during the company's HDD Reimagine event, with more details provided in an accompanying press release. Western Digital said it is committed to meeting customer demand for large data storage.
These customers are generally quite large scale companies, such as communications providers, large scale cloud companies and NAS vendors. They all need a solution to store the huge amounts of data they create.
These hard drives use a storage architecture called OptiNAND that is integrated with an iNAND UFS flash drive for improved performance, reliability, and capacity. According to Western Digital, the HDD has such a high storage capacity because improved firmware algorithms remove metadata from the disk storage space and place it in the iNAND flash drive.
