My formative years were spent watching cartoons, and I still enjoy them as an adult. Don't judge me. The NYT Crossword does a great job of honoring the medium with a tricky clue if you're not thinking straight.

Six across is "UVULA", and if you don't know anatomy, in layman's terms it's the dangling bit at the back of your mouth (next to your throat) before we enter the windpipe. It's one of the weirdest aspects of the body I've ever found, but even animals have them, and the premise of using them to avoid being swallowed is in cartoons.
