Lane departure warning systems are a group of safety technologies primarily designed to prevent accidents at high speeds on highways and interstates. There are a few different types of lane departure warning systems, and some are more proactive than others. By warning the driver, or even taking automatic corrective action, these systems can prevent many collisions and run-off-road accidents.

There are three primary types of lane departure warning technologies. While they all have the same general purpose, they accomplish this goal in slightly different ways:
Lane departure early warning systems typically use a single video camera to monitor lane markings. However, modern systems can also use visual, laser or radar sensors.
