The big new feature in macOS 12.1 Monterey is SharePlay, but there's plenty more to discover.
macOS 12.1 Monterey Features: Everything New
One of the most exciting things to come out of Apple’s Silicon transition is feature parity between the Mac and iOS. Now that both platforms run on the same chips, Apple is treating its computers as one big system with distinct hardware features. Just as the Mac has desktops and laptops, and iOS has long had phones, tablets, a watch, and so on, it now feels more like one big Apple OS, with a variety of devices inside it.
And that means the Mac is finally getting as much attention as the iPhone and iPad.
“The most exciting new feature coming to macOS Monterey 12.1 is SharePlay, which lets Mac users watch content together via FaceTime. The feature came to iPhone with iOS 15.1, so it’s nice to see it making its way to macOS, especially since its release has been delayed,” Daria Maltseva, chief product officer at software developer KeyUA, told Lifewire via email.
