The Red Skull in Sea of Thieves can be either rewarding or unforgiving for a player. The map is filled with unknown threats and potential rewards, provided you know the difference. However, the Red Skull that appears on the map is both rewarding and dangerous. Anyone who wants to keep their inventory full of riches will want to know the details. That’s why we’ve created this guide to explain everything about it.
How to Identify World Events! (Updated: Season 13)
Each Red Skull on the map is linked to a Reaper's Chest. Once the Reaper's Chest appears on the map, it is visible to every player in the game, meaning anyone can obtain it. The Red Skull marker will remain on the map even if someone has collected it, so be careful as other players may try to steal the gold from you.
Apart from this, there is a White Skull on a Red background, which indicates a key. This key is to open the safe in the Fort of the Damned. Just like Reaper's Chest, the location of the key will appear on the map even if you have it with you. So when you have the key, rush to the Fort of the Damned and collect the treasure as soon as possible.
If you see a ship with the Reaper Mark or Red Skull, engage them in battle. If you can defeat them, you can claim the precious loot they tried to steal.
