Discord has grown over the past year to become one of the most popular audio-centric social media platforms. Originally aimed at gamers, Discord has since introduced a ton of features that make it an ideal choice for professional and personal use. You can create communities, host your own servers, create events, host speaking sessions, and much more within Discord. Discord also has a handy status section that allows you to control your public availability to other members on your Discord servers. One of these statuses is 'Idle'. Since Discord automatically changes your status based on your activity, you may have seen it set to idle in many cases. So what does the 'Idle' status on Discord mean? Let's find out!
What does Idle mean on Discord
The 'Idle' status refers to a period of inactivity for any user on Discord. To be precise, your status will be changed to Idle when you are active/logged in to Discord but haven't checked or used the app or web app in a while.
It's very similar to the term 'AFK' used in the early days of the Internet, which meant 'Away from the Keyboard'.
Your status will also change to inactive if you have Discord active in one of your browser tabs but haven't checked it in a while. Inactive is different from "Offline" or "DND" because it lets other users know that you're active on Discord and logged in, but currently unavailable or busy with something else.
