In this day and age where content has become a truly precious commodity, losing even a single message can be a very costly affair. And while we’re saying this, we’re not even thinking about the emotional trauma of losing a precious memory when you accidentally delete a message. Of course, there are messages/DMs that are truly regrettable enough that you want to make sure there’s absolutely no sign of them on the internet.
When you delete a DM on Instagram, does it also delete it for the other person?
So it's important to know what happens when you delete an Instagram post or DM. We're here to help.
Once you delete an Instagram post or photo, it’s essentially gone forever, along with all the interaction in terms of likes, shares, comments, and reactions. As with deleted accounts, Instagram retains the content for a certain period of time (ninety days) to meet its legal obligations in the event the post or photo is involved as evidence.
Only under very special circumstances can the deleted content be recovered during the ninety-day grace period. But once the ninety days are up, the data is gone for good.
