This article describes what CAB files are, how to install or open them in Windows or another operating system, and how to convert them to EXE or another format.
How to Open and Use a CAB File in Windows
A file with the .CAB extension is a Windows Cabinet file (formerly known as Diamond files). They are compressed files that store data related to various Windows installations, including device drivers or system files.
The Pack and Go feature of the Microsoft Publisher program can create CAB files that end with the PUZ file extension. These contain everything with the document, in the same archive format as CAB, so they can be treated the same way.
The InstallShield installer also creates files with the CAB extension, but these are unrelated to the Windows Cabinet file format.
