A dynamic IP address is an IP address that is automatically assigned to each connection or node of a network, such as your smartphone, computer or tablet. This automatic assignment of IP addresses is performed by a DHCP server.
Static IP vs. dynamic IP address
An IP address assigned by the DHCP server is called dynamic because it is often different on subsequent connections to the network.
The public IP address assigned to most home and business routers by their ISPs is a dynamic IP address. Larger businesses typically do not connect to the Internet using dynamic IP addresses and instead are assigned static IP addresses, and only to them.
In a local network such as at home or in the office, where you use a private IP address, most devices are probably configured for DHCP, which means they use dynamic IP addresses. If DHCP is not enabled, each device on your home network will have to manually set up network information.
