A hidden file is any file with the hidden attribute enabled. As you might expect, a file or folder with this attribute enabled is invisible when browsing through folders: you can't see any of them without explicitly unhiding them all.
"Super Hidden" Files in Windows (Even Experts Don't Know About Them)
Most computers running a Windows operating system are configured by default not to display hidden files.
The reason some files and folders are automatically marked as hidden is because, unlike other data like your photos and documents, they aren’t files you’d want to modify, delete, or move. These are often important files related to the operating system. Both Windows and macOS computers have hidden files.
Sometimes you need to see hidden files, for example when you are updating software that requires you to select a specific file that is hidden in normal view, or when you are trying to troubleshoot or repair a specific problem. Otherwise, it is normal to never work with hidden files.
