The Windows registry is full of objects called values, which contain specific instructions that Windows and applications refer to.
What are those different HKEY registry items in Windows anyway?
There are many types of registry values, all of which are explained below. They include string values, binary values, DWORD (32-bit) values, QWORD (64-bit) values, multi-string values, and expandable string values.
Registry values can be found throughout the registry in Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.
The Registry Editor contains not only values, but also registry keys and registry hives. The latter two objects are like folders and are displayed on the left side of the Registry Editor. Registry values are thus a bit like files that are stored in these keys and their "subkeys".
