This article describes the different file formats that use the AIR file extension. It also explains how to open each type.
What is an AIR file and how do you open it?
A file with the .AIR extension is most likely an AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime) installation package that stores web-based applications programmed with ActionScript or Apache Flex. They are usually ZIP-compressed and can be used on all desktop and mobile operating systems that support the Adobe AIR runtime, such as Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.
The MUGEN video game engine uses the AIR file extension for a plain text file format that stores animation settings. It can explain how a character should move or how a background scene should simulate movement. They also explain how MUGEN sprite files (.SFF) are animated.
This file extension can also be used as a binary game data file for a flight simulator for Windows called Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
